It’s May, and that means that it’s Healthy Vision Month. When was your last comprehensive eye exam? Getting your eyes tested periodically is one of the best things you can do to make sure your eyesight remains strong and healthy. During your session, your eye care professional examines your eyes to look for commonly occurring eye diseases and vision issues, many of which lack early warning signs.
The exam starts with what’s known as a visual acuity test, using an eye chart to measure how your vision behaves at several different distances. The outside of your eye will also be assessed.
After these tests have concluded, your eye care professional may proceed to examine your retina using specialized diagnostic technology. This examination is very important, as it will provide necessary information about the health of your eyes, as well as information about your general health. For example, it can show warning signs of diseases such as diabetes and also point to unhealthy blood pressure.
Finally, you will be checked for signs of glaucoma. Your optometrist will do this by determining your eye pressure, using a rapid puff of air directed onto your eye.
Anytime is the right time to protect your eyes. Commit to making your eye health a priority, and call to schedule an appointment today.
